The Genital Herpes is an infection caused by the Herpes Simplex virus type 1 and 2. This viral infection is contagious and spreads upon contact. It can affect oral skin health, mucous membrane of the genitals, and the rectum. This virus can be transmitted to the newborn when present in the birth canal during the birthing process. Infants who contract this virus may develop serious conditions such as, herpetic meningitis, herpetic viremia, etc., which necessitates the need for long-term medical care for the infants.
